Day 84 - Los Angeles & Hawaii

A quick report from the 'escapees'. We were up early, met Bob and Wendy in the Foyer, and on the Airport shuttle to LAX by 6.15am. We were greeted by the news at the airport that our flight had a delay of two hours due to the late arrival of the incoming aircraft..bugger.

I the braced myself for the notorious security screening check, which was a bit of a non event I thought, though Wendy did get grumbled at by a guard for trying to help:)

So we had plenty of time to kill, but what became a four hour wait went fairly quickly. We had breakfast at Nates, which was nice, although Donna has discovered that Americans dont drink, and therefore dont cater for English Breakfast tea. We had some teabags packed, but took them out at the last minute as we had declared that we were not carrying any food off the ship, and did not want any drama, so not tea for Donna. The hotels dont have tea either..seems odd to me.

The 5 and a half hour flight was smooth, and it was nice being on a full service airline, that provided full meals etc. Flying with Hawaiian Airlines was a nice experience. As usual, could not sleep, so we hired the movie player and watched movies, blogged and read our way to Honolulu.

I can now cross an item off my bucket list as I have had a taxi ride that was the equal to a V8 Supercar ride!!! After settling in we explored around, saw what was where in relation to our hotel, and checked out the beach that is close by, had a meal.

We spent a bit of time researching all the attractions and things we want to do, and there are plenty. We told friends on board that we we look at booking a group of us into a Luau on Saturday, but I dont think it is going to work in with the ships schedule, but we will firm that up today. We will probably do a Luau one night during the week when we dont have the time pressures on getting back on board by a specific time.

It is nice to have a few days to enjoy Honolulu, and we may even look at some of the other islands here also. See how we go :)

  1. Hi Steve and Donna, did you feel the earthquake at LAX? They had a couple of 4.5's in LA. Enjoy Hawaai, good idea that flying from LA to Hawaii I wonder if any other pax did it. Still enjoying your blogs.

  2. Hi Steve and Donna
Have you tried the "trolley" bus out to the Waikele Outlet Stores and the Ala Moana shopping centre. Enjoy Hawaii, one of our favourite places. Great idea to skip the cruise over to Hawaii and have more time. One day is never enough in those islands. Lorri H.

    1. Hi Pam, from what I understand there are only two traditional Luaus on Oahu, all the others are on the other islands. We went to one of the traditional ones tonight, and we did not get back to Waikiki until 10.15pm, too late for the ship. I believe there are lots of hotels that do a dinner and show, but not really the intention. See ya Saturday :)
