Day 55

Day 55 – Dover to Bergen – Monday 9/7/12

Weather – Cloudy, 14C - 16C
Sunrise – 4.31am
Sunset – 10.37pm
Time difference - minus 8 hours ex Sydney (forward an hour last night)

Throughout the day Sun Princess steered northerly courses through the North Sea. At 11.40am this morning Sun Princess passed Nordsoeen oil field 6 miles starboard.

The days are getting longer, and the nights shorter as we head further north. This is our first experience with daylight evenings this late, after 10.30pm for sunset. I love it.

Very quiet day on board, must have been a big day or two for most, including us, as it everyone seemed to be just a bit slow out of the blocks. I never sleep in until 8.30am, and Donna did not waken until 10am. Suffice to say we missed Dining Room breakfast, so it was up to the buffet for us.

Today was our CC meet and greet, which enabled us to say welcome to those who joined us in Dover. It was well attended, though not as big as previous ones, and a few officers were also present.

Pre Dinner drinks was a little different as we missed some folk who disembarked in Dover, we miss you Mal and Marie!!!! Formal night tonight, again so soon, as it is the start of a new sector. We were not really that keen to do another formal quite so soon, but we did so, because we wanted to welcome our new dinner partners. We should have had two new couples join our table of 10, but no-one appeared, so it was just the 6 stalwarts in attendance :)

We have another couple of back to back ports with Bergen tomorrow, and Shetland Islands (Lerwick) the next day. That is the last of the back to back port days until we are nearly home when we have Auckland and Bay of Islands at the end of August.

Tomorrow morning at 5am we will embark the Norwegian pilot just south of Norde Hellesoyflua. Sun Princess will then alter on a south-south-easterly heading following the Hjelete Fjorden and we will continue on this course inside the fjord for 21.5 miles. Sun Princess will then pass the island of Geitung and expect to be alongside Bergen at 8am tomorrow (Tuesday).
